An old video from November 2020 showing a stray dog nibbling at the dead body from the stretcher is being falsely shared as a recent one amid the COVID-19 crisis in the country.
In the second wave of the coronavirus, 60 to 65 percent of the patients are having difficulty in breathing. Their oxygen level decreases rapidly. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has been suggesting yoga to help increase the oxygen level of patients at home through several interviews during this COVID-19 crisis.
Amid this, an image of Baba Ramdev in a hospital surrounded by people wearing a mask on their faces is being shared on social media with a claim that he was admitted to a hospital and is on ventilator support.
A Facebook user name Sima Bhil shared a post with a claim that "Baba, who gave knowledge on maintaining oxygen level in the body, was on a ventilator himself" (Translated from Hindi)
In our investigation, we found that the viral claim is misleading. This was an old image from 2011 when Baba Ramdev was hospitalised in Dehradun following a nine-day hunger strike against corruption and black money.
After doing reverse image research on google, we found a report of India Today in which the same photo can be seen. The description of the image read, “Baba Ramdev just after breaking his fast in a Dehradun hospital on Sunday, June 12, 2011.”
Baba Ramdev sat on a hunger strike for nine days, seeking an end to corruption and recovery of black money stashed away in foreign lands. He was admitted to the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) hospital in Dehradun.
Further, we found a news report of NDTV dated June 12, 2011, in which a video can be seen showing Baba Ramdev finally ending his hunger strike after nine days.
In conclusion, an old image from 2011 when Baba Ramdev was hospitalised in Dehradun following a nine-day hunger strike against corruption and black money falsely shared with a claim that he was admitted to a hospital and is on ventilator support.
